Light Refreshments are served at the meetings. Attendees are welcome to bring a dish of finger food (doesn't require fork or utensils to eat) to contribute to the potluck. Brining a dish of food to share is not required.
We've have some great informative and inspiring speakers at NAMI Sacramento General Meetings. Here is a summary of meeting topics for the coming year:
February 9 General Meeting Guest Speaker
Officer Michelle Lazark
Officer Lazark is with the City of Sacramento's Police Department. She was recently hired to be the official Crisis Intervention officer for Sac PD and will have a clinician riding with her. She will come and update us about the City's efforts to resolve mental health crisis' before they become a major incident.
March 9 General Meeting Guest Speaker
"Ask the Doc" with Sonny Cline MA MDIV PA-C
Sonny is a graduate of Stanford Medical School Primary Care Associates Program. He holds master’s degrees in psychology and divinity and has been practicing general family medicine and psychiatry for the past 9 years. Sonny teaches psychiatric medicine at Stanford and UC Davis. Sonny also serves as president of Medicine and Beyond, a non-profit organization working primarily in Burma with doctors and orphanages to improve healthcare.
April 13 General Meeting Guest Speaker
Dr Stephen B Seager
Dr. Seager is a board-certified psychiatrist employed at Napa State Hospital in Napa, California. Based on this latest experience comes his newest book released on September 16, 2014, entitled "Gates of Gomorrah; A Year with the Criminally Insane".
May 11 General Meeting Guest Speaker
The Public Conservator arranges for the personal care of an individual or the management of his or her financial affairs. Working under appointment by the court, a conservator may be assigned to either a person or an estate, or both.
The conservator of a person arranges for:
- Food and clothing
- Housekeeping and personal care
- Transportation and recreation
The conservator of an estate:
- Manages all aspects of the conservatee’s finances
- Locates, controls, and protects the conservatee’s assets
August 10 General Meeting
Turning Point Community Programs provides integrated, cost-effective mental health services, employment and housing for adults, children and their families that promote recovery, independence and self-sufficiency.September 14 General Meeting
Proxy Parent Foundation safeguards public benefits for disabled persons through the PLAN of California Master Pooled Trust and provides “family like” Personal Support Services for people with mental illness and other brain disorders.
October 12 General Meeting
Healios provides family psycho-education which includes skills training and support to caregivers through highly trained healthcare providers. For ease of access, the caregiver has their sessions with the Healios practitioner via user-friendly video conferencing. They work with the caregiver, and if possible, with their loved one's treatment team, to re-establish or improve those lines of communication that are necessary to optimize treatment success and recovery.
November 9 General Meeting
